A little blog sale haul...♥

Good aaafternoon!

I recently bought two dresses and a nail polish from the lovely Chloe at The Beauty Corner. In fact, it was only the day before yesterday! She posted the package the day after I paid by first class, and it arrived the next day! Everything came in a bubble wrap envelope, and was wrapped very nicely with tissue paper (pink, may I just add :D ).

Chloe was also sweet enough to send me a thank you card! :)

Thank YOU girl, for being so sweet :)

I got really excited when I saw the dresses, both from New Look, and had to try them on right away! So yeah, please excuse my makeup-less face :P

I absolutely love the patterns on these dresses, and they're the perfect size for me too! Haha, it's like Christmas has come early.

And last but not least, I bought the BarryM Nail Paint in black. I feel that black is such a timeless colour, I look forward to trying this nail polish out!

Chloe's blog sale can be found here! It's worth a look because there are plenty of great products left...a couple of examples would be Revlon nail polishes for £1 each or £2.50 for 3, and Mac Lovelorn for £5! Her blog also makes a good read! I love how she has such a variety of posts, from product reviews to health and fitness posts, she's got it all. Please do check her out :)

I've been a bit slack with my posts recently, it'll be the holidays getting to me. I've got a few future posts in mind already, so I have no intention of abandoning this blog!

It's Friday! Yayyyy, happy weekend guys :)

Chuuful Nails + Review: Rimmel 60 Seconds Nail Polish - 320 Rapid Ruby; Update!

Whilst browsing in Superdrug last week, I came across an amazing deal. Buy two Rimmel 60 Seconds nail polishes for £4.99, or £3.69 each. I could not resist this deliciously tempting offer and picked up the shades 320 Rapid Ruby and 805 Grey Matter. I will be reviewing and doing a NOTD with Rapid Ruby today, a similar post for Grey Matter will follow! :)

Rapid Ruby is such a classic red, not too bright nor muted, it's got its balance just right. I just had to try this nail polish out as soon as I got home. I've never been a big nail polish girl (it smells terrible, I have a really unsteady hand, and the painful wait for nail polish to dry really kills me off), but I am actually loving this 60 Seconds nail polish!

Sorry, didn't realise the brush was out of focus!

The nail polish has an 'Xpress Brush', which Rimmel claims is capable of applying nail polish in just one second. I certainly can't apply nail polish that quickly! That said, the brush is quite big, so it fans out and covers more nail area per stroke. Due to the size of the brush it also holds onto a lot of product. This is good for the thumbs, but can be messy on the pinkies especially.

It being a fast drying nail polish, I was doubtful as to whether I'd like the nail polish formula. Fast drying nail polishes have always been gloopy for me, which is incredibly annoying as you have to pile the polish on to make the polish surface look smooth. The smooth surface will undoubtedly be ruined later that day because thick coats of nail polish never seems to dry. I actually love the formula! It slides smoothly onto the nail, and is opaque after just one coat! (Such a time saver!). The colour on the nail is very true to the colour in the bottle, so that's a bonus. The polish also dries very quickly, so I managed to quickly get back to the rest of my day. I even had a shower fairly soon after painting my nails, as I was getting very tired! I thought my nails would look awful afterwards for sure, but they survived 10 minutes of hot water just fine :)

I had no foundation on in this photo..scary how much more tanned my face is than my hand!

I have had this nail polish on for five days now, and there are signs of tip wear and tiny chips, but that's to be expected taking the way I treat my nails into account! These signs of wear aren't even noticeable unless you look closely.

I think this nail polish has become my favourite nail polish so far! :)

Rating: 9/10  (not 10/10 because application can be messy with such a large brush!)

Repurchase: Definitely ♥

Little Update!

My boyfriend James set off for Japan last Friday, where he'll stay for his year abroad at uni. He will be attending a university in Tokyo, having lectures in Japanese. It's all very exciting as he is a very talented linguist, and I really look forward to hearing his Japanese when he gets back! He'll also get to soak up the culture, and eat loads of funky stuff, which I am very jealous about. He also has a blog, which he will keep during his stay in Tokyo. His posts will be very informative for those considering studying in Japan, and will make a great read for anyone who has an interest in life in Japan, Japanese culture and such. So please have a look around his blog! And if you are interested in what he gets up to, then please follow him on abritabroad11.blogspot.com. He also tweets quite regularly, follow @jsebright11 if you would like! :)

That's it for today! For those in the UK, hope you had a good bank holiday weekend :)

Chuui Rambles: A post to take my mind off results! (Since updated!)

Thursday 18th August. The dreaded results day. Today will be the day I find out my A-level results, and whether I met my beastly offer of A*A*AA... It is also my 19 month anniversary with my boyfriend, and we've got lovely anniversary things planned for the day. I really hope the day isn't ruined by my results! I wanted to do a bit of blogging to take my mind off results..just a little rambley post today!

Update: I got the grades I needed! :D Wooooooooop hahha....managed to get A*A*A*A, which I am more than happy about! So incredibly relieved :)

I went for a shop earlier this week, and picked up a beautiful pair of shoes from Baratts! There was a sale on inside and I just couldn't resist a peek...and found these beauties!

I love, love, love the bow at the front! They were originally £28, and were reduced to £10....what a find! I was incredibly happy when I saw these shoes in my size haha. Baratts seems to always have a sale every time I go into town, maybe it's the failing economy...I picked up a nice little dress from H&M too, which I forgot to take a photo of, but it's blue and white and polka dotty! :)

I also dyed my hair red, or at least attempted to! I bought a box of hair dye from Schwarzkopf, the actual name of the hair dye escapes me...the shade was called mahogany though! The colour chart looked promising, the result looked great even for dark brown hair. I had very high hopes as I washed the dye out of my hair, but alas, I should have known there was no way my hair could have got lighter in colour! I think it's quite nice though, especially when it catches the sun. Under indoor lighting it is very subtle and just warms up my complexion, so I'm happy. Okay I realise my hair doesn't look red in the photo below, but I swear it is, just very very subtly! Haha...

A childhood friend of mine bought me a box of moon cakes from China! I received them yesterday and they love them! Unlike conventional moon cakes, which are round, they are shaped into little rabbits! I think they are beyond adorable, and they taste very yummy too. Eee love her so much :)

Ooo I also experimented with my gel eyeliner today, and I think it turned out quite pretty! Hehe...

This is my first updatey/rambley post isn't it! Well I hope it makes a good read...it has taken some of my nervousness away, which is good.

Good night everyone!

Much love,
Chuui

Chuuful Nails: Burgundy Goodness

Hello! Hope everyone had a good weekend :)

I've been growing my nails for a few weeks now, and finally they have reached a satisfactory length...here comes the nail polish! I've painted my nails a lovely burgundy, which I am loving. It's less harsh than black, so it isn't too inappropriate for summer. It also gives my nails a very vintage feel...an all round thumbs up for me!

I can't really remember where I got this nail polish from...it just says nail polish at the front, so probably not anywhere special!

How do you like your nails in the summer? Pop a comment down below! :)

Much love,

Review: NYC Show Time Waterproof Mascara

Sorry guys! It has been so long since my last post, I'm back for good now though! I've just been busy with exams, holidays, and overcoming summer induced laziness...got there in the end! Ha :)

The product I'll be reviewing in this post is not something I would have normally picked up in a shop. In fact, I only bought it because I needed a cheap waterproof mascara that'll take me through my beach holiday. I'm not usually a big fan of waterproof mascaras, the removal is far too draining.

The NYC Show Time waterproof mascara has really made its way into my good books- it lengthens, curls, and volumises beautifully. Whenever I get a new mascara, eyelash curlers are never used for the first application. This is so that I can see what the product itself is capable of. It really does take a good mascara to flatter my natural lashes, which are straight, droopy and very short. I loved the results this mascara delivered so much, that I haven't felt the need to pick up my eyelash curlers at all.

The formulation...

...is amazing! It is wet enough so that you can build up the products and shape your lashes without clumping, and dry enough so that your lashes don't droop whilst waiting for the product to dry. I think the waterproof factor makes the formulation more waxy, which is what gives this mascara its lovely qualities.

The mascara does lack on the waterproof front though. It comes off when in contact with water, but not in the way a non-waterproof mascara would. The majority of the product does stay on, but some of it would run and leave a grey cast around the eye area. It also didn't stand the hot summer heat, and left me with minor panda eyes when I was on holiday...nothing a little primer wouldn't fix though. To give you an idea, I applied some of the product to the back of my hand to see how it took water exposure. I was initially very impressed as it didn't budge at all, and it even survived me rubbing on it with my finger. However, after five minutes it was completely gone...I had no idea when it decided to come off!

The brush...

This is the one thing I do not like about this product. I have always rooted for plastic wands over the traditional fibre bristles, as I find they tend to encourage clumps. I suppose this problem can be overcome by using a plastic wand from old mascaras that I never use anymore....*brain wave*...

How it ages...

To be honest, not great. I've had this mascara for just over a month and it has already dried quite a lot. The ageing process may have been encouraged by all the hot weather it's been getting, making the mascara very hard to work with, especially with the wand it came with.

The price...

It was really, really cheap! I can't remember exactly, but I think it was around the £2 mark. It may have been on offer, but NYC products are very reasonably priced anyway...no fault to pick here!

Conclusion...

This mascara had the most wonderful consistency when first opened, I just wish it would stay that way! Keeping it in the fridge would have been a good idea, but I didn't think it would be this unforgiving with heat exposure. For the price though, it's amazing.

Rating: 7/10
Repurchase: Maybe...probably

And lastly, just a few holiday snaps!

Really enjoyed writing this post, it's good to be back!

Review: Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion

Hey! This is the second instalment of my Clinique reviews, this one will be on the Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion. Click here for my review on the Clinique High Impact Lip Colour in Rosette.

I initially wanted to use this product for my hands, because they are horribly dry and sore. I use E45 on them usually, and it works, but it leaves my hands greasy and doesn't really improve the condition of my hands. I wondered whether the Dramatically Different lotion will really be dramatically different.

Review: Clinique High Impact Lip Colour in Rosette

Hey! We've had such lovely weather recently, I feel quite spoilt actually haha. I thought I'd do a post today, since the lighting's quite good for photos! I've wanted to do this post for a while now, but I've just been lazy (I blame the sun). But yes, I'll get straight into it!

Last month I got my hands on some Clinique goodies, click here to read my Clinique freebies post. I was really excited about these products because they are a bit expensive for a student with no source of income! Today I'm going to review the High Impact Lip Colour with SPF 15 in Rosette, and the Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion (in separate posts). I, being the retard that I am, completely forgot to apply the High Impact Mascara to photograph today...so that'll have to come in another post I'm afraid!

Starting off with the lippie...

I absolutely adore this lipstick, it is truly stunning in colour. Clinique describes it as a 'golden rose', which I think is spot on. It has a satin frost finish, the gold undertones give this lip colour a lot of depth.

Tagged! Writings on the Wall

It's nearly the Easter holidays, and the sun is shining...I'm in such a good mood! Although I dread to think the amount of revision I'll have to do in my two weeks off. The summer exams are really important, as they'll basically shape the rest of my life. No pressure then.

On a happier note! I was tagged by the lovely Aya from Codename Aya. She is such a sweet and genuine person, her blog is one of my favourites to read! Those DIY posts of hers make her blog different, and just really interesting in general! The reviews are also awesome, so please check her blog out!

Update & Experimental Look

Hello! It has been so long since my last blog post, too long! Moving house turned out to be more stressful than imagined, it has literally drained me. I always tired these days, even more so than before, which I did not think was possible.

So I’ve now fully settled in, and have the internet! Woooo! Cannot wait to catch up on everyone’s blog posts, I’ve missed my daily blog dose ha. I’m really loving the new house, the stress was definitely worth it.

Now, to the make-up! I’ve always been hesitant to be adventurous with my make-up. I’d go for the nude look every time, a few coats of mascara and some foundation. It’s probably because I am pretty much incapable of getting up in the morning. If it doesn’t get to the stage where I have to get up, then I just don’t. So I rarely get enough time to make myself look pretty. I have always wanted to branch out into the world of eyeshadows, but my awkward eyelids and my awful application stop me from even trying most of the time. I do however like playing with make-up when I'm bored, so here's a look I came up with!

Life without internet...

So I recently moved house...and I am internet-less. I don't know the technical details, but the internet provider needs to come to the house and install something so that we can have internet access (just read through that sentence, and it's not at all informative haha). And the bad news is, the earliest they can come is some time in April, I think it was the 17th or something? D: I have no idea how I am going to cope. I'm using the internet in my old house now, but it would be too much of a hassle to commute down here every day. :(

I've missed blogging and reading other people's posts..and just checking my email! Speaking of which, I am really quite gutted...I won a giveaway on the 16th, and since I haven't been able to check my email up until now, the prize got allocated to someone else...ahhh... :( :(

I think what I am going to do, is write the blog posts on Word and just post when I get a chance to. I've been so busy juggling school and moving, it's a nightmare. On the bright side, I do really really like the new house! :)

I have always dismissed 'Missing In Action' posts...but here I am writing just that. I really love the blogging community, and I hope I can be active in it again soon!

So to conclude, I am alive, just not able to get onto the internet. I seriously appreciate it now, I feel like I'm in the 80's without it. I'll work something out.

I just want to thank everyone who's read and commented on my blog posts whilst I've been away. I really appreciate it!

Much love,

Chuui

Review: Pantene Pro-V Smooth & Sleek 2 in 1 Shampoo and Conditioner

I don't usually use Pantene shampoos, because I heard somewhere ages ago that their shampoos make your hair fall out. It sounds really silly, but it has kept me away from their products, until now.

Review - Maybelline the Falsies Volum' Express in Black Drama

I have very short, thin, and straight lashes. Without mascara they look like curtains in front of my eyes, sigh... I have been on the quest to find the perfect mascara, a mascara that lengthens, curls and volumises...and all this without clumping. I have not yet found my HG mascara, but I have stumbled across some very good ones.

Around a month ago, I purchased this mascara. I have always been interested in mascaras that claim to give you that false lash effect. Is it really possible? I had to find out. I purchased the Black Drama version of this mascara, because it has a concentrated black fibre formula, and it's in the colour blackest black! I never knew this until recently, but mascaras lengthen because the fibres within them act as extensions on your real lashes. The extended lashes then get coated with mascara, blending the real and the synthetic together, achieving a lengthening effect! I bet this is common knowledge haha...

Onto the review...

Nail Of The Day (NOTD) - 17 Poodle Pink

This half term has gone so quickly! I can't believe it's back to school tomorrow...so much homework to do! (And yet I'm here blogging haha...) It's nearly the end of the month, and I thought I would start something new, and try out this NOTD business...

I must confess, I have this terrible habit of picking at my cuticles and the skin around the nail on my fingers and thumbs. This has been a habit of mine since I was very little..it's like my comfort blanket equivalent, but it delivers anything but comfort! My fingers, and thumbs especially are usually really sore, and look pretty disgusting. Oh and I also have a tendency to bite my nails when I get nervous or stressed...

So over half term, I have decided to stop these awful habits of mine. My hands are on their way to recovery! :) Traces of my old ways are still visible, but they are definitely looking healthier! And to keep me motivated, I've decided to start doing NOTD posts. (Aaaand we're finally onto the point...) It's nice, wearing nail varnish after so long.

These are the nail polishes I wore:

Waist Slimming Tips and Tricks (Queen 18/02/2011)

I first found out about the Taiwanese show 《女人我最大》, or Queen, as it is called in English around two months ago. I have since been a loyal follower of the programme.

I think it is an absolute gem of a show. It talks make-up, hair, fashion, diets, health...and much much more. Queen gives such great tips and I always learn something new in each episode! It broadcasts every Monday to Friday and I watch it every day after school- a great way to relax after a long day.

The audio of Queen is in Mandarin Chinese, and there don't seem to be many episodes with English subtitles. In fact, I doubt many people outside of China have even heard of the show. I'm not too sure how long the show has been aired for, the answers Google came up with seemed to vary quite a lot...maybe around the six year mark? It is an absolutely fantastic show and I would recommend everyone who can understand Mandarin to watch it, but for those who can't...

I have decided to blog about certain episodes that I think will be of interest to everyone. The content really does vary from show to show, and not every episode is to my taste. I hope this will be beneficial for those who want to watch the show but can't, due to the language barrier.

So I have just finished watching the 18/02/2011 episode, which was titled "post new year pot belly rescue" (funny translation?! haha). Here are the tips I picked up from the show.

Hula hoops don't actually help slim down your waist

Sleek, MUA, Schwarzkopf

So it's half term! :) A whole week off school, what a relief. After school today I went for a little shopping trip. I was going to get a Sleek palette, as I have heard so many good things about them! When I went to my local Superdrug, I wasn't really sure if they stocked Sleek, as it is not a very big branch. But sure enough, the Sleek was there amongst all the other counters. they stocked 4 palettes, the Original, Acid, Storm and Sunset.

Diet Diaries

So this is just a little update on how my diet's going.

I lost around 4lb (2kg) in a week, and the whole process felt very manageable! I just cut out all the rubbish I used to eat, which was quite a lot! There's always so much food around the house and I seriously have no self control when it comes to food...but what I found was that the transition from snacking to no snacking was really hard at first, but after my stomach adjusted I didn't even feel the need to reach for food because I actually felt content.

I have slacked recently though, as exams took priority and I told myself I needed more energy...thus more food intake! Now I'm going to name and shame myself, as this will make me stop doing such horrible things to my body. For lunch today I had,
  • Pizza
  • Crisps
  • A bag of chocolate
  • A triple chocolate chip cookie
Okay, that sounds disgusting...as a result of my recent unhealthy eating my body weight has picked up again (oh the dreaded scales).

I am going to follow up on my diet again! I have not had much for dinner today...and will start to make my own packed lunches. I am determined to keep going, for the sake of my health.

A method I've been using to keep myself from eating too much is to wear something a little tight (but nothing to restrictive!) around the waist area. I usually wear tights and pull them up really high. It looks silly, but it works. Your newly restricted tummy will need a lot less food to satisfy, plus you won't get hungry as easily! I found this a great way to kick start my diet and it really does provide momentum to keep going.

I really hope I can stick with this diet, for once!

Bubbles, bows, and Love Heart nibbles

Really quite disappointed, what I thought was the BB cream turned out to be a ring I ordered online...although the ring is very pretty and makes me happy :)

I have sent an angry message to the seller who I bought the BB cream from! Seriously, I ordered it on the 16th of last month and it has been nearly a month! It has exceeded the 21 working days upper boundary so they have no excuse! Sighs...Hope my current foundations can hold on for a bit longer...I'd be reluctant to buy from  xxxxxstore on ebay again, that's for sure.

I have been so incredibly stressed out recently! Sat two exams today...did a classic me and left everything till the last minute! Just very glad it's all over now!

Went for a little shop on Saturday with my boyfriend on Saturday and picked up a few goodies :) I got some Lush bubble bars. In my opinion bubble bars beat bath bombs any day! Who doesn't want to be smothered sweet scented bubbles? Hehe... so yes I picked up the Ma Bar and the Pop In The Bath Bubble Bar.

Ma Bar

The Ma Bar has always been a favourite for me. I think it one of my first ever purchases from Lush. I adore it. It smells beautiful, definitely good enough to eat!

Lush says...
"Ma Bar is a happy marriage between delicious cocoa powder and sweet orange oil, topped off with a dab of brown sugar. Tempted? Crumble in your tub to indulge in the biggest, fluffiest, toffee-chocolate bubbles imaginable and experience pure candy bar bliss."

Now this bubble bar is in no way sickly or overwhelming, I find it really relaxing and is my absolute favourite after a long day. Plus you end up smelling absolutely divine! The Ma Bar smells quite similar to the Honey Bee bath bomb, which I also love!

BB cream has arrived!

Yayy :)

There are really quite a few yay worthy things today! :)

First of all, my long awaited Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream has arrived! Well when I say arrived, I mean the postman tried to deliver it but I wasn't home...so I will be picking it up on Saturday! :) I'm looking forward! I have read so many good reviews on this product, I wonder if it will work for me? Eeee :) Really pleased it has FINALLY come! I ordered it on 16th Jan on ebay, as I don't know of any shops that sell BB creams in the UK...so ja, watch this space for a review coming soon.

Chicken, bonsai, and make-up...

My boyfriend and I celebrated our one year anniversary yesterday, we went out for an ultra yummy meal at Nando's and he decided to buy me my valentine's day present early! The meal was so lovely, it was the first time I tried peri peri chicken and it was simply gorgeous. The chips and pitta bread went down very well too. We both walked out feeling very, very full indeed (a sure sign of a great meal!).

For valentine's day my boyfriend decided to get me a bonsai. Instead of surprising me he gave me the opportunity to chose one for myself :)

I picked this Chinese Elm, because he is incredibly beautiful. He simply stood out amongst all the other bonsai! I was tempted by the peppercorn though, they smelt soo refreshing. Another perk is that Chinese Elms are very suitable for the newbie bonsai grower ;) I'm not very good with plants, you see...

He's getting re-potted in two or three weeks time, which is pretty exciting! Haha...it's strange how attached I am to him already... <3

I had a little wander in Boots too, and got a new mascara and eyebrow pencil.

I was really quite excited when I saw the packaging, the lace is a very pretty touch. The Maybelline Falsies Volum' Express mascara in Black Drama claims to lengthen and volumise in order to create a false lash effect, and all this without clumping. I have only used this product once so far, and it was amazingly clumpy. Although to be fair it did lengthen and volumise...so first impressions are not great, but I'll give it another week or so.

I bought a Rimmel eyebrow pencil in 004 black brown. In my opinion it is very very good value for money! It was only £2.99 from Boots and is very easy to work with. I have not really felt the need to use eyebrow pencils up until now, and the result I get from this pencil is brilliant, even with no experience in application whatsoever. My only problem with it is that it is a smidge too dark for my liking (or is that just because I'm not used to seeing such prominence in my eyebrows?), I will probably purchase a lighter shade at some point too.

That's it for now :)

A new little corner of my world...

Since it's the start of a new year in the lunar calender, I've decided to start a little blog of my own. I will be sharing droplets of my life, and random things that pop to mind :)

我也会在博客上练练中文,呵呵呵……随便的唠叨唠叨 ^^

I look forward :)
